The beginning of the season - testing and getting used to the new equipment. Every hockey player will confirm that the biggest problems are with the skates. Bruised ankles from new skates haunt everyone. A great help with this problem is a special hot-air oven, in which the skates can be shaped/heated. Skates are heated in special hot air ovens (Skate Oven) supplied by the manufacturer. They can also be heated at home in a conventional hot-air oven. However, we recommend the first heating option, i.e. a special oven. Only higher models of skates can be heated (confirmation from the manufacturer is usually given). Skates that are not designed for thermoforming could be irreversibly damaged.
What is warming actually good for? Professional and semi-professional skate models have very solid and reinforced shoe structures, which cause large blisters and abrasions. The skates have gel pads in the ankle area, which when heated will mold to your ankles. This will significantly affect and facilitate the adaptation of your foot to the new skates.
Place the skates (without liners, also watch the laces - do not heat skates with wax laces) in the preheated oven and let them heat for 3 minutes. After this time, put the liners back into the skates and tie tightly on the player's foot. It is important to tighten the laces sideways! Never upwards! The heated eyelets could be damaged. In laced skates, the player stands up, does not cross his legs, does not walk! The player will remain in this position for approximately 5 minutes, the next 5 minutes the player will sit in the skates. When this is over, pull the laces from the last 3 eyelets so that the player can easily pull the foot out and not deform the newly molded gel pads. Allow the skates to cool thoroughly for some time and you are done.
Opinions that heat molding is unnecessary or even that it can damage the skates are false. If handled properly, the skates are not destroyed when "baked"! If heat molding were harmful to the skates, the manufacturer would not offer this option! However, it is recommended to test the skates on the ice first and only if problems and blisters occur, reach for the option of heating the skates.
